Customized Solutions

We have learned that when designed and implemented intelligently, a comprehensive obstetric hospitalist program can become a centerpiece of a hospital’s strategy to help meet economic and clinical challenges. We believe that for an ob hospitalist program to succeed, it must be aligned with the hospital’s goals. The Ob Hospitalist Group is committed to changing healthcare for the better by helping you design an ob hospitalist program that improves the quality of care for your patients and drives financial and operational performance for your hospital.

Because your focus is our focus, we strive to customize our solutions to bring optimal patient care and efficiencies to our hospital clients. We have an unsurpassed service commitment with proven value-added resources, and we tailor our solutions to the specific problems and challenges at our client hospitals.  Our unique hospital-aligned model results in improved financial and operational performance for our hospital partners and better quality of care for our patients.

Physician Recruitment

Our clinical quality process starts with hiring qualified, experienced ob/gyn physicians who match the specific needs of each hospital facility. We recruit highly talented and uniquely well-suited hospitalists into a program created to meet the specific needs of each partnered hospital.

Our experienced staff of full time, professional recruiters consistently captures top physician talent in a highly competitive market. Their approach is assertive and thorough, bringing the best of resources to bear on recruiting and retention of providers.

Most physician recruitment companies will charge at least $20,000 per recruited Ob/Gyn physician.  Ob Hospitalist Group provides all initial and subsequent physician recruitment at no charge.

Physician Management

We manage physicians so you won’t have to.  If an Ob Hospitalist Group physician does not perform to the highest standards, he/she can be quickly replaced without the involvement of hospital committees.

Additionally, because our physicians are not hospital employees, they will not interact at all with your Human Resources Department.  The hospital will not need to provide health benefits, retirement benefits, malpractice insurance, vacation, or sick leave for Ob Hospitalist Group physicians.

Liability Protection

Ob Hospitalist Group provides its physicians with full occurrence or tail-paid malpractice protection.  We believe that having fully protected physicians, who are not hospital employees, provides an extra layer of protection for our host hospitals.

Maximized Coding and Compliance

Efficient coding is critical to the financial viability of an ob hospitalist program.  Ob Hospitalist Group physicians are trained to provide effective coding for our unique specialty.  We routinely audit our doctors to verify that coding policies are followed appropriately and to assure that charges are not overlooked.

Compliance irregularities can result in severe penalties for hospitals.  We provide straightforward coding and compliance policies to guide our physicians.  Our doctors strive to capture every charge while providing the necessary documentation to support each code.

Established Billing Infrastructure

We provide a comprehensive superbill, specific for the ob hospitalist specialty.  Our user-friendly superbill allows us to realize a higher level of return by capturing hidden charges and avoiding missed revenue.

We work closely with billing specialists to quickly rectify any claims denials.  Also, we maintain an open line of communication with billing to address and identify any procedural problems with billing or collections.

Policies and Procedures

Ob Hospitalist Group provides a detailed policy and procedure manual tailored to the unique needs of each host hospital.  Our policies take the guesswork out of our physician performance. Our doctors have clear performance objectives explaining what to do, and what pitfalls to avoid.

Physician Certification

In addition to board certification in obstetrics and gynecology, Ob Hospitalist Group physicians are required to maintain additional training and certification including:

  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring
  • Operative Delivery Management
  • Shoulder Dystocia Management
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Neonatal Advanced Life Support

Performance Improvement

Our team of experienced ob hospitalist clinicians provides a continuous quality improvement focus enabling the effective implementation of our mission. We will participate in quality improvement forums to assure that together we provide the best care possible.  Within each hospital, our team tracks and reports on over 50 quality assurance items each month.

Quality Patient Care

Ob Hospitalist Group physicians provide courteous and professional care to all patients without regard to their financial or insurance status.  Our physicians are compensated equally for all patient care.  Unlike many physicians, we will welcome the role of providing care for your indigent clients.

Non-competitive

Because our physicians are not allowed to have affiliations with local private practices, your staff physicians can be assured that Ob Hospitalist Group physicians will never try to recruit patients away from their practices.

Additionally, in an effort to remain neutral and impartial, our physicians are non-voting members of the Obstetrics Department.

Building Relationships

To maximize the effectiveness of your ob hospitalist program, Ob Hospitalist Group will strive to build and maintain a close working relationship with community outreach clinics.  Our program facilitators will visit regularly to identify any concerns and to bridge communications between our hospitalists and administration, billing, nurses, and staff physicians.

Education

Ob Hospitalist Group physicians can assist with training medical students or resident physicians.  Also, our physicians will gladly participate in staff training programs.

Public Awareness

Ob Hospitalist Group will assist the hospital in promoting public awareness of this visionary program.  We will assist with press releases and provide the photos and template for a “Meet the Ob Hospitalists” brochure.

Physician Satisfaction

Avoidance of unassigned, or “walk-in” calls, will result in happier, more productive physicians.  This improved physician satisfaction results in cost savings due to improved physician recruitment and retention.

Nurse Satisfaction

The uninterrupted presence of ob hospitalist physicians results in the ability to rapidly assess and discharge obstetric triage patients; this avoids overflows and delays.  Also, improved physician availability removes the stress of clinical decision making from nurses.

Improved Patient Care

Patients who present emergently to the hospital expect to be evaluated by a physician. This does not always happen.  If a patient is pregnant, at 20 week gestation or less, she is seen by an emergency room physician.  Pregnant patients at greater than 20 week gestation are considered higher risk.  Instead of being seen by the emergency room physician, these patients are sent directly to the obstetrics unit where they are often evaluated and discharged by a nurse, without ever being evaluated by a physician.

The 24 hour in-house availability of Ob Hospitalist Group physicians will assure that every obstetric patient presenting to the hospital will be evaluated by a physician prior to discharge or admission.

Saving Lives

Undoubtedly, the greatest benefit of an ob hospitalist program is the rapid ability to manage emergencies.  As all obstetricians know, there can be lightning-fast changes in the care of the obstetrical patient.  Things can go from fine to disaster in just a few minutes.  If an emergency occurs, the ob hospitalist is already on the scene, ready to respond with lifesaving intervention.  The presence of an ob hospitalist physician, full-time in Labor and Delivery, could improve patient outcomes and decrease liability due to delays in care.
